Diamond Rings: Under Appreciated in the Jeweler's World

I feel bad for diamond rings. I know that may sound like a silly thing to say, but when you hear the logic of my argument, you might come around to my way of thinking about. I’m not the only person who feels that way either. Many professional jewelers, especially the ones who are not just salespeople but also the ones who create and design jewelry as well, understand that they are an under-appreciated piece of fine jewelry. The reason I feel bad? Two words: engagement rings.

The diamond has become such the accepted stone for when it’s time to pop the question, a ring with any other stone will immediately solicit any number of questions and comments, ranging from “could he not afford a diamond” to “are you out of your mind?” The flip side to that is that it is next to impossible for a person to pull off wearing diamond rings without people asking you when the big day is. It is certainly easier for a man to sport a ring with diamonds in them, but that’s only because men don’t slip on the ring until they’ve said “I do.” If a woman is wearing one, it doesn’t matter what finger she puts it on. People will just assume it means one thing and one thing only. Who knew that something as beautiful as a diamond could become so marginalized?
